The Executive Board of the Beijing Organizing Committee for the Games of the XXIX Olympiad (BOCOG) held its 77th meeting on Thursday, defining this year's security task in preparing for the 2008 Olympic Games.

A report to the meeting said BOCOG has made steady progress in the security work under the leadership of relevant departments. The focus of the task for 2007 will be an all-round shift to the competitive operation, with test events and venue management as its core undertakings.

Reaffirming the achievement in the security work, the meeting noted that high attention should be paid to security and every effort should be made to ensure its success, because security is a crucial factor to guarantee the success of the Olympic Games. In this regard, international exchange and cooperation will be enhanced and foreign security talents will be brought in to lift the level of the security work. The meeting called for more efforts to use up-to-date technologies, and make rational use of funds, materials and human resources to ensure the implementation of the security program as planned.

The meeting also heard a report on the modification of design schemes of the medals for Beijing 2008 Olympic Games. In October 2006, the International Olympic Committee (IOC) reviewed the design schemes of the medals, including their ribbons, presentation boxes and diplomas, and affirmed their merits. In line with IOC suggestions, BOCOG made further modifications. The Executive Board agreed to submit the latest version to IOC for further review and finalize the design schemes of the medals and their affiliated parts.

The meeting was chaired by BOCOG President Liu Qi, who is also member of the Political Bureau of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China (CPC) and secretary of Beijing Municipal CPC Committee.

Present at the meeting was also Chen Zhili, state councilor and BOCOG first vice-president.
