Chinese researchers develop prediction model for cardiovascular disease

BEIJING -- Chinese researchers have created a model for cardiovascular disease risk prediction among Chinese citizens, which will help improve the prevention and management of cardiovascular disease.
The research was led by Fuwai Hospital under the Chinese Academy of Medical Sciences and was based on data collected from more than 120,000 people.
By entering an individual's age, blood pressure, total cholesterol, blood glucose, and other indexes, the model will comprehensively assess the individual's lifetime risk of atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease.
Based on the research, the team created a risk calculator for cardiovascular disease, which can be accessed on a website free of charge by members of the public.
"We hope to help more people recognize their risk of cardiovascular disease at an earlier age, which will prompt them to adopt a healthy lifestyle and take preventive measures," said Gu Dongfeng, head of the research team.
