Examples provided by the Fujian Earthquake Agency demonstrate how the early warning terminal works when an earthquake is imminent. The public will be informed of its intensity and estimated time of arrival time a few seconds before the destructive seismic wave occurs. The terminal is an important part of China’s early warning system, which is officially called the National Seismic Intensity Rapid Reporting and Early Warning Project. The system was approved by the central government early in 2017, and last year, Fujian province began installing terminals in 18,400 schools and communities.
