Beijing tallies National Day holiday travel
BEIJING -- Beijing welcomed 9.2 million tourists during the weeklong National Day holiday ending Monday, according to the municipal bureau of culture and tourism Tuesday.
Tourism revenue totaled 11.17 billion yuan (about $1.57 billion) during the holiday that lasted from Oct 1 to 7, with per capita spending reaching 1,213.7 yuan, the bureau said.
The city saw 3.87 million tourists visiting from other parts of the country -- 3.17 million of which came by train between Sept 30 and Oct 6, which contributed revenue of 9.26 billion yuan, accounting for 82.9 percent of the total amount.
Beijing's historic and cultural attractions of Qianmen Street, Wangfujing, the Summer Palace, the Temple of Heaven and the Forbidden City were among the most popular destinations for visitors.
Art performances and exhibitions held at the Beijing Garden Expo Park and the Beijing International Horticultural Exhibition also drew large crowds.
