Over 60 pct of elderly Chinese have doctor within 2 km: report

BEIJING -- Over 60 percent of elderly Chinese people have access to medical services within 2 km of their homes, according to a report issued by the China Research Center on Aging.
Nearly 40 percent of elderly people were eager to receive medical services at home, said the report.
The report also showed that elderly people needed rehabilitation nursing, psychological counseling, health education services and care at home to help them deal with chronic diseases.
Dang Junwu, deputy director of the center, called for strengthened family-based aging care, and volunteer services to improve the elderly care system.
