Efforts should be made to offer a wider range of better community-based services to deliver people a sense of belonging, Premier Li Keqiang said on the morning of March 25.
The Premier was visiting the Fuqiang Xincun community in Changzhou city, East China’s Jiangsu province, where he inspected places providing services to residents, such as parcel collection stations, elderly care homes and dining rooms.
The person in charge of the community work told the Premier they offer services covering elderly care, child care, housekeeping, health and catering through adopting government-purchased services and cutting or waiving rent, water and electricity bills, among others.
That effort alone, with the help of private actors, has helped create 38 new jobs, the manager added.
The community-based service sector has huge development potential, and its success will produce multiple benefits, including bringing great convenience to people’s lives, creating considerable flexible jobs and spurring effective investment, the Premier said.
Community-based elderly and child care services not only provide home-based care to the elderly and children, but also make their offspring or parents feel at ease when working outside, Premier Li said, adding only when the elderly can spend their remaining years in happiness can the young generation have a secure future.
