Two more people were found dead after being trapped in the subway in Zhengzhou, Henan province, on July 20 as record-breaking torrential rain hit the city and poured into the subway tunnel, the city's flood control and drought relief authority said on Tuesday.

Around 6 pm that day, floodwater broke out of the flood control facilities near Wulongkou station on Line 5 of the city's subway system. The trains inside the tunnel were then surrounded by water, trapping passengers inside.

Despite the intense search and rescue effort, 12 people were found dead that day. After the remaining water was drained, two more bodies were found — the first around 2 pm on Saturday and the other at about 6:30 am on Sunday, the city's flood control and drought relief command office said.

Since Monday, expanded search efforts have been carried out, and no further casualties have been reported, according to the command office, which also published the list of those who died.

Line 5 is now under repair to ensure its services can be resumed as soon as possible, it added.

Zhengzhou residents have been laying flowers at the shuttered entrances of Line 5 subway stations to mourn the deaths since Monday.
