Chinese sprinter Xie Zhenye ran into the men's 200m semifinals at the Tokyo Olympics to make history for the country in this event on Tuesday.
Xie, the holder of the Asian record, clocked in at 20.34 seconds in the group stage to mark his seasonal best. The semifinals will take place Tuesday night.
Xie's teammate, Asia's 100m record holder Su Bingtian, made a historic appearance at the Olympic 100m final on Sunday and finished sixth.
