Wong: Proud of nation's achievements
Editor's note: As part of a long-standing tradition, President Xi Jinping delivered his New Year greeting on New Year's Eve. Xi said the prosperity and stability of the Hong Kong and Macao special administrative regions are always close to the heart of the motherland. Xi's words pulled on the heartstring of many in Hong Kong. Ronnie Wong Man-chiu, honorary secretary-general of the Sports Federation and Olympic Committee of Hong Kong, is one of those who have something to say after hearing Xi's heartfelt speech.
I am proud of the nation's development over the past decades, especially that we have achieved dazzling achievements in the Olympics. President Xi mentioned that the nation will strive to host the 2022 Winter Olympics, which will be another chance for the world to see our country's achievements as I expect the country will post an outstanding performance as well.
I totally agree with what Xi said about the "one country, two systems" principle. Hong Kong has been through a lot and it's finally back on the right track with a helping hand from the nation. For that, I am deeply grateful to the central government for maintaining Hong Kong's stability and prosperity.
I am very hopeful that the country will do better in the new year. We will do our part to contribute to the nation.
