Action taken against people deemed responsible for tower roof collapse
Three people deemed responsible for the tower roof collapse have been suspended or removed from their positions, according to a statement from a joint task force in Fengyang county, Chuzhou city, Anhui province, on Friday night.
The deputy mayor of Fengyang county has been suspended pending further inspection, and the director of the county's cultural and tourism bureau as well as the chairman of Fengyang Daming Tourism Development (Group) Co Ltd have been relieved of their duties, according to the statement.
Hundreds of tiles fell off the roof of the Fengyang Drum Tower on Monday evening. The tower building, constructed in 1995, underwent a major renovation project that finished in 2024. After the incident, Chuzhou authority established a joint investigation team to conduct a thorough investigation.
Further investigations will be carried out into the individuals and units involved, with actions to be taken in line with relevant laws, regulations, and disciplinary procedures based on the findings, the statement said.
