To celebrate the 60th anniversary of Xizang autonomous region, the Sanxingdui Museum in Sichuan has launched the special exhibition Potala Palace — A World Cultural Heritage from the Plateau.

As part of the sixth Culture and Art Week of National Archaeological Park of China, the exhibition offers a rare glimpse into the palace's artistic and historical treasures.

The Potala Palace, a UNESCO World Cultural Heritage site since 1994, is renowned as a repository of Tibetan art and culture. This exhibition displays 110 sets of artifacts (186 individual items), including Buddhist statues, thangkas, scriptures, ritual objects, textiles, masks, and architectural elements. Over one-third of the pieces are being exhibited for the first time, allowing visitors to engage with the palace's legacy in an unprecedented way.

Curated by the Sanxingdui Museum and the Potala Palace Administration, the exhibition features three sections: Architecture, Treasures, and Preservation & Utilization, alongside a digital mural display. Visitors can explore the palace's architectural evolution, its collection of religious and royal artifacts, and conservation efforts integrating modern technology.

With immersive digital projections, VR experiences, and interactive exhibits, the exhibition breathes new life into centuries-old culture. It will run until Aug 31 and also host academic lectures, educational workshops, and expert-guided tours, deepening appreciation for Xizang's artistic and historical legacy.
