Sports festival held in Shanghai to boost fitness, consumption

A sports festival kicked off in Shanghai's Hongkou district on July 5, aiming to transform the Ruihong Tiandi commercial district into an integrated sports and consumption hub. The event, running through Aug 31, targets participants across almost all age groups.
The 58-day festival features 13 major competitions, 45 sporting disciplines and over 200 experiential activities, marking an upgrade from its previous edition.
Structured around three main activity pillars — competitive sports events, community competitions and recreational sports activities — the festival included a lineup of national, municipal and district-level sporting events. Among these are a national Go championship hosted by the Chinese Weiqi Association, a youth jump rope competition (Hongkou station) organized by the China Sport School Federation and a Shanghai amateur games fencing open.
