The death toll from Monday's rain-triggered landslide in Nantaizi Xigou village, Luanping county of Chengde, Hebei province, has risen to eight with four still missing, local authorities announced at noon on Tuesday.
Following initial reports of four fatalities and eight missing, rescue teams have recovered four additional bodies from the debris, Xinhua News Agency reported.
Search operations continue for the remaining missing individuals amid challenging weather.
With more rain forecast on Tuesday, authorities plan to evacuate all villagers from the high-risk zone.
The mountains are at critical soil saturation, elevating landslide and mudflow risks, the report said.
