Erenhot Border Port Handles 20,000th China-Europe Freight Train

Erenhot, the largest land port on the China-Mongolia border, has reached a new milestone with 20,000 inbound and outbound China-Europe freight train trips since the launch of its service in 2013, according to China Railway Hohhot Group Co., Ltd.

Located in the Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region, Erenhot has rapidly grown into a crucial hub along the central corridor of the China-Europe Railway Express. The port achieved its first 10,000-train benchmark in 2022. Now, just three years later, the second 10,000 freight journeys have been completed, signaling a sharp increase in volume and activity.

China’s continued push to deepen international trade and economic cooperation has led to a steady rise in train frequency, destination coverage, and cargo diversity at the port. While initial shipments were mostly limited to metals, chemicals, and apparel, recent freight increasingly includes high-value goods such as new-energy vehicles, electronics, and household appliances.

Today, Erenhot connects over 60 cities across 24 Chinese provinces with more than 70 destinations in over 10 countries, including Germany and Poland, via 73 established routes. The port’s growing role in facilitating regional connectivity and trade highlights its importance as a key gateway between China and Europe.
