With no major presence expected from the United States at the COP30 United Nations climate change conference, China and the European Union are anticipated to play pivotal roles in shaping the outcomes of the annual UN gathering, scheduled for November in Belem, Brazil, said Inger Andersen, executive director of the UN Environment Programme, in an exclusive interview with China Daily ahead of the opening of 2025 UN Climate Change Conference.
While supporting Brazil to ensure a successful COP30, China and the EU are also expected to facilitate "transformative" low-carbon investments in developing economies, which will create multilateral benefits, she added.
