The 38th China Golden Rooster Awards wrapped in Xiamen on Nov 15, after a five-day celebration of Chinese filmmaking. Yi Yangqianxi and Song Jia received the Best Actor and Best Actress awards, respectively.
Among the twenty prestigious awards announced, the Lifetime Achievement Award was given to 83-year-old Qiao Zhen and 84-year-old director Xiao Guiyun. Her Story won Best Feature Film, while Chen Sicheng and Dai Mo took home Best Director for Detective Chinatown 1900. The Best Animation award went to Ne Zha 2, a global box office sensation that has become the world's fifth highest-grossing film with over 15.9 billion yuan ($2.2 billion) in revenue.
The festival also featured events such as the Golden Rooster International Film Screening, the Golden Rooster Films Project Market, and the Griff Industry International Roundtable.
Since Xiamen became the venue of the Golden Rooster Awards in 2019, the city has leveraged the festival to drive both industrial and urban development. This strategy has significantly boosted the local film industry. At the recent GRIFF Industry Opening Ceremony and Xiamen Cultural Film and Television Industry Project Signing Ceremony, 177 projects, worth a total of 31.86 billion yuan, were launched. These projects span film, music, and cultural tourism, highlighting Xiamen's robust development potential.
With the Golden Rooster Awards as a key national platform, Xiamen now hosts over 2,600 film enterprises, including 92 medium-to-large-sized companies. In 2024, these enterprises generated approximately 20 billion yuan in revenue. The city has developed a comprehensive film industry structure, and its natural advantages and strong industry policies are accelerating its transformation into a "City of Film".
