China extends lead as world's largest express delivery market
China remained the world's largest express delivery market in 2024, extending its lead for an 11th straight year, according to the Global Express Development Report (2025).
The report, released by the Development and Research Center of the State Post Bureau during the 6th Express Delivery Industry Conference in Tonglu, Zhejiang province, highlighted strong double-digit growth globally.
Global parcel volume grew 17.49 percent to 267.9 billion items in 2024. Global industry revenue rose 14.05 percent to 46.04 trillion yuan ($6.47 trillion). The worldwide revenue for 2024 was approximately 46037 billion yuan.
China's express market continued to lead by a wide margin, fueled by e-commerce dynamism and logistics network upgrades. China's parcel volume reached 175.08 billion pieces, marking a 21.5 percent increase in 2024. Sector revenue climbed 13.8 percent to 1.403 trillion yuan, reflecting sustained, high-quality growth.
The report also noted that China's market achieved a historic breakthrough, sustaining an average monthly volume of more than 10 billion parcels—a scale unmatched globally and signaling the country's increasingly sophisticated delivery infrastructure.
Global parcel volume is expected to surpass 300 billion pieces this year (2025), with worldwide revenue poised to exceed 5 trillion yuan.
