Exhibition honors calligrapher ahead of 90th birthday
Calligraphy has always held a special place in the cultural life of Sze Chi-ching, a prominent Hong Kong figure and recipient of the Grand Bauhinia Medal, awarded by the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region.
Born in Jinjiang, Fujian province, but growing up in Hong Kong, Sze was open-minded and steeped in traditional Chinese culture during his early childhood.
These influences have enriched his calligraphic practice, through which he connects with the great calligraphers of history, drawing inspiration from their creativity and innovative spirit.
An exhibition at the National Art Museum of China celebrates Sze's upcoming 90th birthday in 2026. On display are dozens of his calligraphic works, across various scripts and styles, featuring classical poems and quotations from renowned historical figures. The exhibition runs until Dec 16.
