Fire engulfs workshop, casualties unknown

URUMQI -- Firefighters have extinguished a big fire in a workshop in northwest China's Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region, but no report of casualties is immediately available.

The fire broke out at about 7:00 pm Sunday in a factory workshop of Nongfu Spring Co., Ltd. in Manas County of Hui Autonomous Prefecture of Changji, about 150 kilometers from the regional capital Urumqi.

The fire spread very fast. Firefighters from Changji Prefecture, Shihezi City and Urumqi City were dispatched to assist in the operation.

Firefighters quenched the fire at 11:40 pm but the workshop was completely demolished.

Investigation has begun.
