Park properties should not only serve the wealthy

The Ministry of Housing and Urban-Rural Development has said that high-end clubs and teahouses in public parks should be shut down since most people can't afford them.

Many buildings in public parks have been rented out and turned into clubs and teahouses for the rich, which goes against the public nature of parks, the People's Daily reported on Friday, quoting the ministry's statement.

The ministry also said that more public funds should be allocated for the construction and maintenance of parks, and local governments nationwide should build more community parks, wild parks and roadside parks to improve people's living environment.

There should be a park at least every 300 to 500 meters in cities, said the ministry.

Statistics show that there were 10,780 registered parks nationwide last year, 5.4 times more than in 1991.
