Pork price spike in Beijing raises concern

(China Daily) Updated: 2016-03-22 07:44

Last month, pork prices in Beijing's major wholesale market, Xinfadi, rose by nearly 60 percent year-on-year.

"A number of pig breeders exited the market years ago amid sluggish prices. The price hike is good for producers, but it'll cut consumption in the long run."

Wang Bo, feed trader in Mianyang, Sichuan province

"The government has done a lot to curb price hikes and improve welfare. It's OK that the prices of some goods have gone up. A stable market can still be achieved."

Feng Zhuo, State-owned enterprise employee in Harbin, Heilongjiang province

"My mom said the prices of vegetables and meat have been spiking for the past two months. Incomes have been lagging behind with money depreciating."

He Jiyang, businessman in Tianjin

"It costs a lot more for the same thing compared with years ago. A bowl of noodles here costs the same in Macao and Hong Kong, which is incredible."

Tian Chuan, teacher in Dalian, Liaoning province
