A man in Xuzhou, Jiangsu Province, committed suicide in despair over being unable to afford his son's university tuition, reports Modern Express.

Although the young man scored high in the National College Entrance Examination in July and was accepted by the Nanjing Forestry University, figuring out how to pay his tuition was a big headache for the already poor family.

Yao's father, who suffered from a stomach disease, did his best to borrow as much money as possible to cover the fees, but the stress caused his condition to worsen.

Yao had to force his father to see a doctor, spending all the borrowed money meant for his tuition to ease his pain.

But his despairing father then swallowed poison to end his life.

Many people sympathized with Yao's situation and sent him money to help him continue his schooling. The Nanjing Forestry University has since decided to let Yao attend the university free of charge.
