( 2003-10-01 11:39) (Xinhua)

South China's Guangdong Province is encouraging media organizations to operate overseas and cooperate with overseas counterparts.

According to a new plans for the province, the local government will adopt measures to promote exports of cultural products and encourage cultural organizations to join in international competition.

Media organizations are encouraged to go to overseas to issue newspapers, open broadcasting and TV stations and set up subsidiaries.

They are also encouraged to cooperate with their overseas counterparts in opening new TV channels and newspapers.

The province has set up publishing houses in many countries and regions including Australia, Singapore and Malaysia. The local government said that it will try to expand businesses of these subsidiaries and open in other countries and regions.

Cultural exchange with neighboring Hong Kong and Macao will also be further promoted by the local government as the province has the same cultural background and uses the same language, Cantonese, as the two regions.
