不過，研究機構IDC的分析師稱，蘋果公司或許并不能在中國獲取巨大的市場份額(market share)。他說，部分原因是阿里巴巴的支付寶(Alibaba's AliPay)和騰訊的微信支付系統(Tencent's WeChat Payment)已經十分普遍，比如微信的資金轉帳(money transfers)功能等。

但他認為，在中國的一些大城市(major cities)，蘋果可能會有很大的市場，因為蘋果的品牌在那里的認同度更高、使用更廣泛。他還說，Apple Pay使用的非接觸交易技術為近場通訊技術(near-field-communication or NFC technology)，而不是支付寶等使用的二維條碼(QR codes)。后者更為支付市場所接受。
