Western China's Sichuan province is an incorporation of both the "Belt and Road" Initiative and "Yangtze River Economic Belt" strategy. The hometown of the giant panda, it is also one of China's most important economic provinces. Sichuan covers an area of 485,000 square km with a population of more than 90 million, maintaining a leading role in resources, population and economy. In recent years, Sichuan has implement a vigorous and successful strategy on opening up and cooperation, achieving significant and sustainable development in an open economy with its total volume of foreign trade ranking first in central and western China. In 2015, the province’s GDP registered at 3 trillion yuan, moving up the ranks from 8th to 6th in the country.

So far, Sichuan has established economic and trade relations with 216 countries and regions across the world. Sichuan has also attracted 16 countries to establish consulates, including the US, Germany, France, Korea, Thailand, Singapore, Pakistan, the Philippines and Poland, placing it third next to Shanghai and Guangzhou. Among the Global Top 500 enterprises, 316 foreign companies like Microsoft, Intel, Foxconn and Dell have made investments for factories and agencies in Sichuan.

The province enjoys profound industrial advantages, boasting a favorable foundation in seven key pillar industries such as digital information, equipment manufacturing, energy electricity, oil, gas and chemical, food and beverage, and modern Chinese medicine, as well as enormous development potential in aerospace, automobiles and bio-engineering.

Sichuan boasts convenient traffic, having a combination of completed and under-construction expressways as well as a total of 18 railways in operation or under construction. Chengdu Shuangliu International Airport is listed as the fourth largest throughput airport in China after Beijing, Shanghai and Guangzhou.
