Research Report, No.76, 2019 (Total 5576) 2019-5-22

Abstract: The largest difference in development capacities between urban and rural areas lies in the utilization of advanced science and technologies. To bridge the gap between China’s urban and rural areas and promote urban-rural integrated development, it is important to equip China’s rural areas with science and technologies to make the rural areas capable of pursuing innovation-oriented development. The urban-rural integrated development has changed connotations of agricultural and rural development, generated new demands of rural areas on science and technologies, changed the outdated urban-rural relations and division of labor and called for new requirements on rural science and technological innovation. It has also changed the one-way technological transmission and promoted the transformation of the science and technology promotion systems. Meanwhile, the new scientific and technological revolution represented by Internet information technologies and modern agricultural technologies has promoted equal urban-rural relations, eliminated traditional boundaries between workers and farmers, laid productivity foundation and created favorable conditions for integrated development of urban and rural areas. To build supporting systems for science and technologies that promote the integrated urban-rural development, efforts are needed to focus on new demands of agricultural and rural development on scientific and technological innovation, fully utilize external resources, unleash the vitality of rural innovation, and innovate promotion modes of technologies according to the changing functions and needs of agriculture and rural areas.

Key words: urban-rural integrated development, science and technology, supporting systems
