One of his ideas is to make striking traffic signs out of waste tires, which has just put into practice recently.

The tires are dyed red, attached with cross-shaped reflective stickers, and placed on bollards along the roads in Baisha village in Baiqing township, helping drivers spot where the bollards are even in the dark.

Liang is determined to find more opportunities to roll out his upcycled creation in places across Pingtan.

"I'm not counting on the recycled waste to bring me awesome benefits," said Liang. "I just want to promote awareness of environmental protection among the public in the city."
