Guizhou province drew 23.27 million domestic and international tourists and received record tourism revenue of 10.7 billion yuan ($1.7 billion) during the Golden Week holiday. The Golden Week holiday combines the National Day and Mid-Autumn Festival holidays and lasts from Sept 30 to Oct 7.

Forty tourist attractions under the supervision of the provincial government drew roughly 6.76 million tourists in total, bringing in total tourism revenue of 4.1 billion yuan ($650 million). Ticket sales contributed 227 million yuan ($36.1 million) to total revenue. The average occupancy rate of 45 hotels under supervision of the provincial government reached 75 percent.

Officials at the Guizhou Provincial Tourism Bureau attributed the boom to convenient facilities and diversified tourism products.

Over 100 highway toll stations in Guizhou offered free access, especially for passenger cars with fewer than seven seats. The “toll-free” policy attracted large numbers of tourists to Guizhou from neighboring provinces, such as Sichuan, Chongqing, Guangxi and Yunnan. Over two million passenger cars passed through the “toll-free” access points from Sept 30 to Oct 6.

The provincial Holiday Office sent 1.4 million text messages to inbound tourists about public tourism services during the week-long holiday. The public security agency in Guiyang City launched a special series on pick pocketing to ensure security for tourists.

Guizhou provides diversified tourism products, including rural tourism, cultural experience tours and “red” tourism. Red tourism is a subset of tourism in China in which people visit locations with historical significance to Chinese Communism.
