Internationally renowned photographer Roger Ballen was born in 1950 and later lived and worked in South Africa for over 30 years. He?is exhibiting?his work?at the 13th Pingyao International Photography Festival, Sept 19 - 25 in the old city of Pingyao, Shanxi province.

Roger Ballen creates photographs in which the boundary between reality and fantasy is blurred. According to Roger Ballen, whether the place exists or not depends on the definition of real existence. There is an internal world. He is just recording the world truthfully. Roger Ballen’s photographic works are strictly in black-white, square formats, offering a unique artistic vision to explore core ideas with imaginary layers.

Roger Ballen’s work has been shown in many museum collections such as the Museum of Modern Art, New York, and the Victoria and Albert Museum, London.
