Jinge Temple
Guanyin Hall in Jinge Temple

This temple is 15 kilometers from the town of Taihuai and is on the highest spot on Wutai, 1,900 meters above sea level, to the north of South Top and the south of Central Top. It was designated one of the key Buddhist temples in Han areas, in 1983.

The front courtyard has a large pavilion and inside the temple there is the 17-meter tall bronze statue of Avalokitesvara with 48 arms, the tallest Buddha statue on Wutai and just slightly smaller than the bronze statue in Xigaze, Tibet and that at Zhengding, Hebei province. The bronze figure was cast in the 34th year of the Jiajing period of Shizong reign of the Ming Dynasty (1368-1644). At the back is the Grand Hall with five rooms where three Buddhas are worshiped, the Sakyamuni, Medicine Guru, and Amitabha, with 18 arhats on either side. The temple has more than 1,000 figures in its halls, giving it the largest number of Buddhist statues on Wutai. Jinge Temple attracts the attention of people from around the world.
