An art exhibition that toured the world, May in China, has returned to its home in Karamay, Xinjiang Uygur autonomous region, and closed at Karamay Culture Center on Aug 29.

In the run up to the showing Chen Xinfa, secretary of Karamay municipality Party committee, met with Yang Xiaoyang, president of the China National Academy of Painting, to discuss the future of Karamay art and potential efforts to promote Karamay culture.

At the meeting Chen said, “When it comes to China’s westernization strategy, Karamay enjoys a unique and advantageous position. Through promoting our famous most talented artists more people can gain an understanding of Karamay culture.”

Yang Xiaoyang, who has been involved in the launch of a new studio in Karamay expressed his love of this city and its culture.

“Karamay is a charming city and it allows a wide range of cultures to thrive. This exhibition provides a space for international cultural dialogue and brings Karamay culture to the world.”

The exhibition set off in June and was successfully displayed twice in the United States of America. It was first shown in the New Jersey town of West Windsor and later at the United Nations headquarters in New York City. It was also exhibited at Beijing’s China National Academy of Painting.

This is the third year of the initiative, which has the express purpose of brining Karamay art to the world. It is hoped that such efforts will continue to expand and develop in the future.
