Athorities had banned 13 categories of items from Universiade venues during the Games for safety concerns, according to an official announcement Wednesday.

The forbidden items include fragile articles and containers, packaged beverages, pets, musical instruments, and long-handled umbrellas, rackets, large suitcases or bags, photographic equipment, radios or other wireless equipment, Shenzhen Economic Daily reported Thursday.

Flammable and explosive materials were also banned.

The city public security bureau also said transporting firearms and ammunition and other dangerous goods would be suspended from Aug. 1 to 31. Blasting and demolition work would be banned during the period.

The transport of toxic chemicals would also be suspended from Aug. 10 to 25.

About Shenzhen

Shenzhen is located at the southern tip of the Chinese mainland on the eastern bank of the mouth of the Pearl River and neighbors Hong Kong.

The brainchild of Deng Xiaoping, the country's first special economic zone was established here by the Chinese Government in 1980. It has been a touchstone for China's reform and opening-up policy since then.
