4. My Fair Princess

My Fair Princess, also known as Return of the Pearl Princess, was first broadcast in April 1998 on the Chinese mainland. Written by Chiung Yao, the Cinderella-like story is set in the Qing Dynasty (1644-1911) during the Qianlong Emperor's reign. A girl, Xiaoyanzi, accidentally becomes a princess after befriending the emperor's illegitimate daughter, Xia Ziwei. The girls find love, and the stories show the complicated situation of the imperial family.
