"In 1989 when we burnt our first, ivory prices plummeted from $300 for a kilogram to $5 a kilogram. We hope other countries will support Kenya because there is no justification to poaching and illegal trading of tusks," he said.

The renowned conservationist and paleoanthropologist also called for a total ban of the trade.
