A memorial statue to celebrate the 60th anniversary of the Shanghai People's Association for Friendship with Foreign Countries (SPAFFC) was unveiled on Thursday in Shanghai.
The bronze sculpture, designed by Shanghai Oil Painting and Sculpture Institute, depicts a pair of hands forming the image of Magnolia, the city flower, and a pigeon. The base of the statue is inscribed with the word "friend" in different languages.
The event also featured a networking activity for foreign youth, college students and young representatives from the SPAFFC. About 60 participants got to enjoy a musical performance and tea reception.
SPAFFC President Zhang Xiaosong said at the ceremony that his association has constantly championed the value of friendship, cooperation, peace and development since it was established in 1956.
He added that the organization has helped foster cooperation between the city and other nations in a variety of arenas, including political, economic, cultural, educational, scientific and technological.
