Beijing rolls out flood prevention measures
Beijing initiated a level III flood prevention emergency response on Thursday, according to Beijing Daily.
All relevant units are requested to implement rain response measures, which includes closely monitoring short-term heavy rainfall in specific areas and carrying out flood prevention-related work effectively.
Also on Thursday morning, Beijing issued a yellow alert for heavy rain.
It is expected that from 5pm on Thursday to 8am on Friday, the hourly rainfall intensity in most parts of the city may exceed 30 millimeters, with some areas in the districts of Fangshan, Mentougou, Shijingshan, Haidian, Huairou, Miyun, Pinggu, Daxing, Tongzhou and elsewhere experiencing hourly rainfall intensities exceeding 50mm.
Cumulative rainfall in 6 hours may exceed 70mm.
The notice said secondary disasters such as flash floods, debris flows and landslides may occur in mountainous and hilly areas, while low-lying areas may experience waterlogging.
