Global engineering conference opens in Shanghai

The World Federation of Engineering Organizations 2025 General Assembly and the Global Engineering Congress, a premier global event in the engineering field, was opened in Shanghai on Monday.

Themed "Engineering shapes a green future", the event, jointly hosted by the WFEO, the China Association for Science and Technology, the Chinese Academy of Engineering, and the Shanghai municipal government, attracted representatives from engineering organizations in over 60 countries and regions.

The "2025 global top 10 engineering achievements" were announced at the event, as well as the release of the Shanghai declaration centering around engineering for a greener future through proactive actions, and engineering capability workshops which will last through Friday.

The top 10 achievements announced at the event include: antibody-drug conjugates, Blackwell GPU architecture, DeepSeek open-source large language model, humanoid robots, and the barrier encircling project in the Taklamakan Desert, Xinjiang Uygur autonomous region.

According to experts, such achievements represent the most advanced technological levels in the field of engineering science and technology and signify major original breakthroughs, helping humanity effectively address global challenges.

Established in 1968, the WFEO is the largest and only non-governmental organization representing all engineering disciplines globally, connecting engineering organizations from over 100 countries and regions and more than 30 million engineers worldwide. The China Association for Science and Technology became a member organization in 1981.
