Shanghai Tower Towerrunning Challenge to kick off in Nov
The 2025 Shanghai Tower Towerrunning Challenge will be held from Nov 22 to 23. For the first time, the event will extend to two days, with the participant quota increased to 3,000, marking a record high in its history in terms of scale.
Hosted by Shanghai Tower and supported by the Samaranch Sports Development Foundation, the challenge has been repeatedly recognized as a major international and domestic sports event in Shanghai since its inception in 2017. It has become a benchmark event, boasting the largest scale, the highest points, and being held in the tallest building.
"Shanghai Tower is a pinnacle of human urban architecture," said Juan Antonio Samaranch, vice-president of the International Olympic Committee and the ambassador for the Shanghai Tower Towerrunning Challenge through a video, "Towerrunning represents the ultimate challenge of will and physical endurance. The combination of this sport with this building perfectly embodies the eternal theme of climbing upward."
"May it not only become a shining jewel in the global crown of towerrunning challenges but also serve as a bridge, connecting people from all corners of the world to collectively inherit and promote the undying Olympic spirit of resilience and the pursuit of excellence," Samaranch added.
This year's event will feature a full-distance race and a fun run. To further boost the enthusiasm of local Chinese athletes, the event will continue to offer a special award for Chinese national athletes to facilitate the cultivation and development of domestic talent. The trophy for this year's event is crafted by the Jingdezhen Ceramic Flagship Store, engraved with the race track markers: "3,398 steps, 119 floors, and a vertical height of 552 meters".
Currently, the event's registration channels are open. Participants can sign up via Shanghai Tower's official WeChat account and designated partner platforms.
