Trade unions roll out winter assistance for workers
The All-China Federation of Trade Unions has recently activated its winter warmth campaign, aimed at providing care, subsidies and supplies to workers facing financial difficulties and recognizing outstanding model employees.
The campaign, according to a release by the federation, will run until March 3, with the measures aiming to help workers in need of help and honoring model workers during the New Year and Spring Festival holidays, which will fall in early January and mid-February in 2026, respectively.
Beneficiary groups of the campaign include laid-off workers with low family income; workers bearing financial difficulties due to children's education costs, or personal injuries, diseases or accidents.
It will also benefit family members of workers with disabilities due to work-related injuries or occupational diseases, or those who have died on duty.
Also, workers serving in new forms of employment and flexible employment such as ride-hailing drivers and food delivery workers, front-line workers holding their posts during major Chinese public holidays and outstanding model workers.
The federation has launched the winter warmth campaign since 1992. During the New Year and Spring Festival holidays, falling in early January and late January 2025, trade unions nationwide collected 6 billion yuan ($848.6 million) for winter warmth campaign, and visited 167,000 companies and 18.5 million workers across China.
